REGISTRATION AND MEMBERSHIP

Some of the issues of History Australia are available on an 'Open Access' basis, meaning they are available to read online for free. However, issues published within the last two years are only available to registered members of the Australian Historical Association (AHA). Members of the AHA will receive a username and a password, and will need to log in before accessing these issues.

Amongst other benefits, membership of the AHA includes a print copy of each issue of History Australia for the year in which you are a member. For information about becoming an AHA member, please see the AHA's website: http://www.theaha.org.au/

MAILING ADDRESS AND PERSONAL DETAILS

Members of the AHA (and other registered users), you can access, check and update your personal information - such as your postal address, your email, your affiliation and so on - through the 'My Profile' link, on the right hand side of the screen. You can update this information directly yourself: there is no need to contact the Subscriptions Manager to do this (unless you encounter problems), although of course you can contact the Subscriptions Manager regarding this if you want to.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR AHA MEMBERS

Your address in the 'My Profile' site is the address to which your print copies of History Australia will be posted (if you have a print-inclusive subscription); therefore it is important that this information is correct. If you have recently subscribed, please check that the address entered is correct. If you are moving, please remember to update your address in the 'My Profile' section.

If you know your address is changing, it would be helpful to update your address at least six weeks prior to the forthcoming issue of History Australia being published, to ensure the correct address is included on the mailing list. History Australia is printed in April, August and December each year.

NAVIGATION

For those who were familiar with the previous History Australia website, you will find the new site quite different, both in terms of the look and the way the site is navigated.

Important:
If you happen to become 'lost' within the site - unable to get to the journal content or to information about the journal - click on 'User Home' from the top navigation bar, and then click on 'History Australia': from there, click on 'Current' or 'Archives' to view the journal content, or click on 'Home' to get to the home page of the journal. Or go back to the home page: http://journals.publishing.monash.edu/ojs/index.php/ha/index

More information about site navigation follows.

Navigation at the top of the screen

After you have logged in, on the top menu bar you will see links to: Home,  About,  User Home,  Search,  Current,  Archives  and  Announcements. These are described briefly below.

  • The 'Home' link is to the home page of this journal.
  • The 'About' page takes you to a list of links for various items about this journal, such as the Editorial team, the scope of the journal, the Copyright Notice and Privacy Policy, and so on.
  • The 'User Home' takes you to your own individual home page within the site as a whole (the site publishes more than one journal) rather than within the History Australia site. To get back to the History Australia home page, just click on the link 'History Australia' under the heading 'My Journals'. Note:  you can change your password from within User Home by clicking 'Change My Password', and you can update your contact details and affiliation (etc) here by clicking 'Edit My Profile'.
  • The 'Search' link is for searching for articles within History Australia.
  • The 'Current' link takes you to the cover image of the most recently published issue of History Australia, with a link to the 'Table of Contents' just above the image.
  • The 'Archives' link takes you to a list of all the published issues.
  • The 'Announcements' page takes you to a list of announcements published by either the Editors of History Australia or the board of the Australian Historical Association.

If you happen to become 'lost' within the site, click on 'User Home' and then click on 'History Australia' to return to the journal. (The History Australia site is blue, generally, whereas pages for the Monash University Publishing site as a whole are green.)

Navigation to the right of the screen

The right hand navigation links are grouped into clusters of related information, where possible.

  • Font size: you can increase or decrease the font size to suit your requirements.
  • User Information
'My Journals' – it is possible to subscribe to more than one journal on the site, hence this link: after logging in you would click ‘My journals’ to navigate to the particular journal you want to read.
'My Profile' is where details such as your address, affiliation and email (etc) are stored; you can update these details here at any time.
    'Logout' link.
  • Subscription information. (Your subscription information may take a few days to appear.)
The expiry date of your subscription is displayed.
The 'My Subscriptions' link takes you to a page that includes information about membership of the AHA on the top half of the page, and information about your specific subscription in the lower half of the page, as well as a link to all of the available subscriptions.
  • Information - for Readers, Authors and Librarians.
  • Journal Content: this navigation section includes shortcuts to the Search function and for Browsing.
  • Journal Help. This is a link to the journal's Help files: by default, the Help page opens to topics relevant to the page from which Help was opened; however,  there is a Search feature that enables you to search the entire Help document. The Help function opens in a separate window.
  • Open Journal Systems. This link takes you to the creators of Open Journal Systems  (the publishing platform on which History Australia is published), the Public Knowledge Project.

READING JOURNAL CONTENT

The journal issues are available through the links 'Current' or 'Archives' at the top of the web pages. The Table of Contents for the most recent issue is also listed on the lower half of the home page:
http://journals.publishing.monash.edu/ojs/index.php/ha/index

The 'Current' link takes you to the most recent issue. The 'Archives' link takes you to the list of all issues, including the current issue.

After clicking on 'Current' or 'Archives', navigate to the issue that you wish to read. On clicking on that issue, a sub-page with a link to the 'Table of Contents' will open, with a cover image immediately below it. Click on either the 'Table of Content's link or on the cover image to enter that issue.

On the Table of Contents page that will open, you will see that there are links on both the left and the right hand sides of the page.   The links on the left take you to information about the article, such as author, abstract, references (there is also a link from within this page to the PDF of the article). The link on the right side of the Table of Contents takes you directly to the PDF of the article.

When you first click on the PDF link, it will open up in a small window within the main frame of the screen. This can be a useful feature for mobile devices, but you may prefer to open the PDF in the full window, or to download the PDF. To do this, scroll down to just below the small-framed PDF and click the link either to view in 'Fullscreen' or to 'Download this PDF File' if you want to save it (in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Use).

YOUR PASSWORD

Your password is not visible to the administrators of this site. If you forget your password, please click to 'Log in', and in the centre of the screen click on the link 'Forgot your password?' and follow the prompts to reset your password. Your new password will be emailed to you.

You can change your password at any time. Click on the link 'User Home' from the top navigation section. Under the heading 'My Account', click on the link to 'Change My Password' and follow the instructions. Passwords must be at least six characters long.

You can click on the 'Help' link on the right hand navigation to open the detailed 'Help' document for this website.
